About the Author: Laila Taji Laila's favorite moment of motherhood was watching her toddler discover that she had the power to read, which first happened after memorizing a book that had been read to her multiple times. Laila really hoped to see that magic moment in Arabic, so she created the board book, These Chicks, which uses a simple Arabic nursery rhyme.

Watching her daughter "read" confidently in Arabic was delightful, and as she grew older, she started to connect the words she was saying with the large clear Arabic letters she saw on the pages. The book was also designed for families hoping to globalize their bookshelves, or who simply want to expose their child however briefly to another language.

The book is accessible; the words are transliterated into English so you can read along without knowing any Arabic, as well as translated so you know what you are saying. Laila also created the website ArabishWay.com where she shares her favorite Arabic language books, toys, games, activities and more. She hopes to write more books to help ease the transition from one-word Arabic books to the more complex stories designed for preschoolers and older. ·
