The word for cactus in Arabic is ‘sabr’ which translated means ‘patience.’ Strong and resilient, sabr is a symbol of Palestinian rootedness, endurance, resistance and hope. Traditionally, sabr have been planted as boundry markers around villages, farms and homes. Today these hardy plants are often the only indication of the location of a historic Palestinian village. Approximate dimensions: 8.75" x 8.75" (11" wide including the handles).
The Ceramic Laboratory in the small Palestinian village of Nisf Jubeil is part of the Mosaic Centre Jericho network. It is located in a beautifully restored traditional building (complete with guest house), just at the edge of the village in a green and hilly countryside. The laboratory aims at reviving the traditional pottery and ceramic handicraft in Palestine through training and education.
