Orient Touch
After fleeing Gaza in 2024, Sahar Hakoura found herself in a community of women facing similar struggles. Having unexpectedly and hopefully temporarily having to flee Gaza for Egypt, Sahar Hakoura with their families, usually having to care for injured and sick loved ones with little means of support. Despite not being experienced at the art of embroidery, they managed to learn and create beautiful pieces they could sell. As their workshop grew they gave their business a name and Orient Touch, which now consists of 27 women who work from their apartments, meeting monthly to support each other and share their experiences. Sahar sources threads and fabrics from local shops in Cairo, fostering a connection with the local community. Orient Touch is a fair trade initiative provides the only means of livelihood for these women and their families and is a fair trade business.
