About Orient Touch
After fleeing Gaza, Sahar Hakoura started a workshop for women refugees in
Cairo, Egypt where she discovered a community of women facing similar struggles. Many had come with their families, often caring for injured loved ones, like one woman who practiced her embroidery while sitting beside her recovering husband in the hospital. Despite not all being professionals, they managed to create beautiful handmade pieces through their collective effort and creativity. The collective they've created called Orient Touch now consists of 27 women who work from their apartments, meeting monthly to support one another and share their experiences. Sahar sources threads and fabrics from local shops in Cairo and even from Jordan when specific materials are hard to find, fostering both connection and resilience within their community. This initiative provides the only means of livelihood for these women and their families.
