Darzah

Darzah, meaning “stitch” in Arabic, is a non-profit, ethical fashion brand dedicated to bringing the Palestinian style of embroidery, tatreez, to the global market in order to celebrate and preserve Palestinian heritage. With a team of artisans made up entirely of women from the West Bank, Darzah’s mission is to economically empower women who have historically been subjected to marginalization, including low income, gender inequality, and limited economic opportunities. As a Fair Trade–certified brand, Darzah’s top priority is providing employees with fair pay and safe working conditions. By ensuring a living wage well above the local minimum, Darzah helps ease financial burdens for many of these women and challenges the extremely high unemployment rates among women in the West Bank.

The team is made up of six full-time employees and 22 part-time employees, each specializing in Palestinian tatreez and based in Zababdeh, Palestine, and its neighboring regions. All products are fully handmade in Palestine from start to finish, using locally sourced materials such as leather from a family-run manufacturer in Al Khalil (Hebron).

Tatreez holds special meaning for Palestinians across both Palestine and the diaspora as an art form that has been passed down for centuries, traditionally from mother to daughter. Each motif carries its own symbolism and story. This very time-consuming process requires an impressive amount of skill and is a meaningful source of pride for Palestinian women.

By supporting Darzah, you are supporting the incomes of these skilled Palestinian artisans, as well as employment programs and job training opportunities in the West Bank.
